An unusual introduction to Japan by Dr. Francesco Civita

A trip to Japan inside a historic Florentine residence is the idea at the heart of a unique event curated by the Far East expert Francesco Civita which will be held on 18 April at 4.30 pm in the halls of Palazzo Coppini (via del Giglio 10, Florence). The exhibited works, belonging to a private collection, will be accompanied by the projection of The spirit of Japan and a photographic collection created by the curator over the various years of visits.

The meeting, conceived as a window on the beauty of Japan and on what it is possible to see through its landscapes, the people who live there, the moments and emotions that arise in contact with even the smallest things, will allow you to see nearby there are also specially exhibited objects, which together with the images want to offer a journey to a country and a culture that have been a source of great curiosity on the part of the entire West for centuries. The mysterious and heroic nature of Japan enters the halls of Palazzo Coppini creating harmony with Florentine culture, with an attempt to better understand contemporary society in which modernity, technology and historical and cultural heritage coexist. The decorum, the measure, the heroic nature of Japanese culture become for one day the absolute protagonists of a meeting that wants to celebrate courage, unity, gratitude and gratitude.

It is also possible to visit the Palazzo Coppini museum, headquarters of the Romualdo Del Bianco Foundation, which works in the development of intercultural dialogue, born in the 1990s following the fall of the Berlin Wall from the intuition of Paolo Del Bianco (in international network of the foundation there are over 500 institutions from 111 countries) every last Friday of the month. It will be possible to get to know the collections on permanent display, with donated objects from 83 countries around the world, ranging from the typical costumes of various countries to the traditional Japanese wooden Noh theater masks, from sculptures and art objects to pieces of high craftsmanship and for daily use. The books form a rare library: over 8,000 volumes written in 10 alphabets. Among the curiosities, a Divine Comedy in Chinese. The collection of inestimable emotional value is a testimony of how the Foundation has managed to create a profound and continuous intercultural dialogue between different peoples in respect of every personal expression of culture, art, music and its own customs, bringing to the Tuscan capital , in one of its Renaissance palaces, a whole world. Palazzo Coppini is also an International Congress, Study and Meeting Center open to the contemporary, thanks to new cutting-edge technical equipment, completely renovated, equipped with seven rooms for meetings and conferences as well as exhibition and reception spaces.

Francesco Civita. Graduated in Foreign Languages and Literatures Oriental (Japanese) and expert of the Romualdo Del Bianco Foundation – Life Beyond Tourism for the Far East, co-curator of the collections of the Museum in Palazzo Coppini. Former curator and member of the scientific committees of exhibitions related to the Japanese and Islamic sections of the Stibbert Museum, both nationally and internationally. Author of various articles on Japanese and Islamic Culture. He has carried out numerous consultations, conferences, assignments, exhibitions for national and international museums (University of Tokyo, Vatican Museums, National Museum of Oriental Art in Rome, Oriental Museum in Venice, Royal Armory in Turin, Venaria Reale, Pitt Rivers Museum in Oxford , Metropolitan Museum of N.Y., National Museum of Natural Science, Houston, Texas, University Museum of Athens, Georgia, Ringling Museum of Sarasota, Florida, Wereld Museum, Rotterdam, Netherland, Museo delle Culture, Musec, Lugano, Switzerland). His interests are mainly and particularly based on the aspects of Japanese Culture and Society, and in general, on the management of cultural assets for their correct study and use as vehicles for understanding the different cultural expressions and the roots of the different cultures, on the aspects related training and education.
