Internationality in Florence: Costume Colloquium VI

Five days of immersion in the world of fashion and textiles. On November 18 the 6th edition of Costume Colloquium concluded with great success. Textiles were examined on the point of view of their political potential and their perception, considering their artisanal and artistic production. A subject of discussion was the importance of the place identity for textile production, but a lot was said also about the future of textile production. Following the presentations of the speakers coming from 14 Countries (Australia, Austria, Azerbaijan, Canada, China, Denmark, Italy, Japan, Netherlands, United Kingdom, Czech Republic, Russia, United States of America, Sweden), the event included also a series of excursions to let participants “touch with their own hands” how the world-famous best Tuscan textiles are created, developed and handled. Among the visits, participants had the chance to see the GiuliaCarla Cecchi Atelier, giuded by the amazing stylist Pola Cecchi, the Mazzanti Piume company, traditionally working with feathers. Artisanality was carried on with the Plissettatura Milady, that does handmade pleating, and then the Officina Profumo Farmaceutica di Santa Maria Novella, one of the most ancient commercial activities in Europe. An important destination is the city of Prato, famous for its whool. Participants visited the Museo del Tessuto, the biggest cultural center of Italy dedicated to valuying art and textile production, the Lineapiù archive, operating since 1975, and Trafi, company specialized in research and development of  coloring. Finally the Museo dell’Arte della Lana di Stia in Casentino (Arezzo), to see the history of the Lanificio di Stia. Here participants had a taste of typical products thanks to Vinolionovo, a market day focused on oil and wine. Finally, the day concluded with a visit to Tessilnova, company dedicated to the production of the Casentino cloth and Cashmere. Particularly the Abbazia di Vallombrosa where they could see the collections of the Museo d’Arte Sacra, that includes textiles such as the Parato di Altoviti. READ MORE
