Project Description
We conducted a 3-day intensive course for 5 participants from the administration of Bertoua, Cameroon, aimed at demonstrating the potential of storytelling for territorial promotion and heritage enhancement.
Bertoua seeks to attract tourism from scratch, and this introductory training allowed the Mayor and his colleagues to understand how to structure the next steps in building a strong narrative identity.
One of the most important aspects of the course was identifying heritage elements worth promoting. Initially, participants were unsure of what stories could captivate visitors, but through the training, they discovered culturally significant elements, such as:
- The legend of King Mbartoua, the mythical founder of the city, endowed with extraordinary powers.
- The ancient initiation rites of young warriors, now reenacted through folkloric festivals.
Thanks to this experience, the Bertoua administration gained practical tools to structure an effective and engaging territorial promotion strategy.
