FLORENCE Youth and Heritage FESTIVAL

FLORENCE youth&heritage FESTIVAL
Heritage and intercultural dialogue: the role of youth

Meetings, debates and expositions will be held during the days of the festival, sided by several international workshops (see the agenda below).
Inauguration will be on the 10th November at 6pm with the opening of the expositions (Expo CZ 2015, Playful Architects, Phililpinas) and of the participants to the 1m3 SPACE, in which young realities were invited to show their own activities.
Two round tables confronting the experiences of the youngsters and of the professionals are scheduled and will treat the topics that follow:

11th NOV 10 am-1 pm
Creativity : Past, Present, Future
chairs: Sue Millar, Rohit Jigyasu
Does artistic creativity depend more on the past or more on the present? Artists and creative people are often viewed as visionaries, farsighted future thinking people. To what extent has this common understanding damaged our understanding of heritage and conservation placing them into a box marked backward looking and conservative? It could and possibly should be contended that the reimagining of our heritage – tangible and intangible - in historic towns, across the regions and across the world depends principally on the creative commitment and imagination if the voice and practices of the past are not to be drowned out by the ‘shock of the new’.

12th NOV 10 am-1 pm
Sustainable development: Travel and Dialogue
chairs: Michael Turner, Namiko Yamauchi
To what extent do heritage values, heritage conservation and the celebration of our past in our communities contribute to sustainable development of the quality of our lives and the environment in which we live both now and in the future? Has cultural heritage been undervalued and underestimated in its importance in arguments supporting cohesive sustainable diverse communities. Have we suffered from mono-cultural (silo)approaches that become divisive rather than inclusive. How can  travel and dialogue based on heritage values enhance mutual understanding, respect and peaceful co-existence in the different places in the world.

Our intent is to engage, raise awareness and encourage dialogue among cultures to get to know, respect and promote peace in the world.
