Since it was placed in the depth of the park, a unique magical atmosphere has been created enabling the citizens and city visitors to enjoy the numerous cultural events arranged there including the poetry reading, the celebrations on various occasions, as well as the memorable concerts and poetic performances.

Its history began on May 4, 1920, when it was sent from Chelyabinsk to Moscow with some bread and provisions on board for the starving people. In this connection it had been thoroughly repaired, and on May 8, 1920 it arrived at Kazansky Rail Terminal, Moscow. Vladimir Ilyich Lenin, the world-famous Russian revolutionary and state leader, personally expressed the gratitude to all the comrades who had assisted in this event. Many years after it was decided to search for the locomotive and bring it back home, and thus, on April 20, 1960 it was placed nearby Chelyabinsk Palace of Culture of Railwaymen for the eternal safekeeping.

It represents the complex architectural and sculptural construction with the two pillars and the very statue of Kurchatov between them. The hemispheres on the pillars stand for a disintegrated atom. In my opinion, this monument reflects the cultural and academic heritage of our region.

The official opening of the theatre is considered to be on December 9, 1921. For about three decades its art director, People’s Artist of Russia Naum Orlov, step by step have been assembled the best minds of the world to build the unique creative and technical staff. The theatre was eventually named after him. Nowadays, it is the largest theatre in the South Ural, the pride and joy of our region, and the cultural centre of Chelyabinsk.
